- Jerry Herman is one of the great Broadway composers, known for his upbeat melodies and feel-good lyrics. This song, from 'Hello. Dolly!' is a beautiful, dreamy composition and one of his his most haunting. Originally set for mens voices ( an unusual choice, I admit but it WAS a gay chorus that commissioned it after all!) , it works best for treble voices . I worked in a surprising, but very easy to hear key change that plays off of the major/minor aspect of this tune.
